About Me
Hi there! I’m McKenzie (she/her) — a Professional Counseling Associate, National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Certified Gambling Addictions Counselor (CGAC II). I believe in every person’s inherent potential for growth, and I’m committed to creating a safe, collaborative space which can foster such growth in our sessions. I recognize you as the expert of your own experience, and I will work with you to evoke your own motivations for the changes you seek. I will join with you to explore the meaning of your experiences, empowering you to become the intentional author of your own story and to live with greater authenticity and connection.
How I Work
My style is warm, collaborative, and holistic. I lead with curiosity, empathy, and a sense of humor about the human experience. I recognize that many behaviors which come to be labeled as problems/concerns began as creative solutions to life’s challenges or efforts to seek safety. I will honor the resilient and adaptive intention of these survival strategies (which may have worked for awhile!), while joining with you to explore the costs they may have on your mind, body, and relationships over time, as well as potential alternatives which are attuned to your capacities, needs, and current story arc. Whatever change goals we collaborate on, I will work at your pace, checking in regularly to make sure you feel supported, respected, and heard. Whether you're seeking support for the first time or continuing your journey, I look forward to working together towards making changes which are meaningful and sustainable for you in this chapter of your life.
Practicing with a holistic lens, I will consider how the many elements of your unique constellation interact, including: your values, social locations, family system, childhood experiences, culture, and the financial/economic, medical and political systems within which we live. I approach this work with a deep commitment to cultural humility and anti-racism, honoring the intersectionality of our lived experiences and naming systemic impacts on wellbeing.
Clinical Orientation
My therapeutic approach is integrative, grounded in existential-humanism and drawing from a variety of evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities, including:
Person-Centered Therapy
Narrative Therapy
Motivational Interviewing
Trauma-Informed Care
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Solution-Focused Therapy
My work is thoroughly strengths-based and attuned to stages of change. Every client collaboration is different, and I will adapt my approach to best meet your unique needs, goals, and preferences.
Who I Work With
I work with teens (15+), adults, and elders. I support those navigating trauma recovery, life and relationship transitions, process addictions (i.e. problem gambling, shopping, gaming/internet use, sports betting), substance use concerns, anxiety, depression, grief, and religious trauma/spiritual abuse. I have been working with clients experiencing complex, co-occurring concerns for multiple years, particularly co-occurring constellations including process addiction(s) and mental health concerns. I enjoy working with those practicing all relationship styles (including non-monogamous or polyamorous configurations) and fellow members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. I offer both individual and relational (couples/polycules) counseling. Folks of all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences are welcome!

A Bit About Me
I experience a sense of home both here in the PNW and in China, having grown up in Oregon and taught middle/high school English Literature in Wuhan for a decade. My background in community development and education instilled an appreciation for the use of story and the pigment of cultural landscape, which I find translates into my work (and language) as a counselor. When I’m not in session, I enjoy spending time in community, basking in wonder out in nature, propagating my many houseplants, singing with a community choir, playing in a recreational soccer league, trying new painting projects, and cuddling up with my cat, Velcro.
